He was the son of the late Henry and Isabelle Deist. Henry was the beloved husband of Billie LaBorde Deist for 55 years. He was the loving father of Steven Deist (Irene) and Cheryl D. Oldendorf. He was the proud grandfather of Julie Schillage and Gregory Deist (Reid Smith). He was the great grandfather of Oscar Deist. Henry was the brother of the late Rita Wilson, Clarence Deist, and Joseph Deist. Henry was a native of New Orleans, LA and a resident of Abita Springs, LA for over 30 years. He retired as a Captain of the New Orleans Fire Department after 21 years of service. He served as the treasurer of the St. Tammany Hospital Guild. He was the president of Police and Firemen’s Holy Name. Henry was the vice-president of St. Vincent De Paul Abita. He served as the quartermaster of VFW post 8720. He also served as president of the Abita Men’s Club, Abita Senior Citizens and American Legion post 15. He was an avid Saints fan and loved his chocolate pie. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a Memorial Mass on Saturday, December 21, 2013 at 11:00 AM at E.J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 W. 21st Ave. Covington, LA 70433. Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM until service time. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, New Orleans, LA privately at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Tammany Parish Hospital Guild ===================
