She was born Friday, October 25, 1918 in Livingston, LA to Willie David "W.D." and Theresa Owens Hughes. Throughout her lifetime she lived in New Orleans, Metairie and Waldheim, LA. The loving wife of the late Morris Edward Fairburn, she is survived by her daughter - Katherine Marie Fairburn Le Compte; one son - Malcolm Edward Fairburn; one brother - Gerald Wayne Hughes; two sisters - Ada Hughes Sullivan Chandler and Bertha Hughes Burge; four grandchildren - Karen Le Compte Merrifield, Julie Le Compte McNeil, Michael Edmond Fairburn, Jodie Fairburn McGowen and ten great-grandchildren - Christopher and Rachel McNeil, Kaylan and Klaire Fairburn, Jack, Abby, Sarah and Greg Merrifield, David and Diana Barber. She is also survived by her cousin/sister, Ethelene Hughes Corb and three special nieces: Cherylyn Corb Cernobyl, Sandy Corb Dunshee and Debra Corb Traub. Her parents; two brothers - Henry S. and Willie S. Hughes and two sisters - Emma Jane Hughes Fairburn and Addie Hughes Simeon preceded her in death. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service at 10:00 AM on Saturday, December 7, 2013 at E.J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 W. 21st Ave. Covington, LA 70433. A wake is scheduled to take place on Friday, December 6, 2013 from 6-9:00 PM with visiting hours beginning Saturday at 9:00 AM. Interment at Pinecrest Memorial Gardens in Covington, LA will immediately follow services.
