She was born Thursday, June 2, 1927 in Birmingham, AL to Morel and Amelia Trull Simmons and lived for most of her life in New Orleans, LA before moving to the Northshore. The beloved wife of Reginald V. Coghlan II, she is survived by her daughter – Lauren Coghlan Tucker (Michael), three grandchildren - Reagan Tucker Charleston (Jeff), Ryan M. and Reina R. Tucker; niece - Dorian Williamson Bonamo and her nephew – Paul Brent Williamson. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother - William Simmons and her sister - Marilyn Simmons Williamson. Amelia was a graduate of Sophie B. Wright School in New Orleans and attended Tulane University Newcomb College Art Institute. She was a very talented artist whose career began as a teenager, designing fashion advertising for the better department stores in New Orleans. She went on to work as an illustrator for the U.S. Air Force Air Grounds School in North Carolina and in Ramstein, Germany. She worked for Chrysler Corp. in the Apollo Space Program and then began her lifelong career as a painter and sculptor with her husband, Reginald, as owners of The Napoleon Gallery and Coghlan Gallery at The Court of The Lions in the French Quarter. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral at 1:00 PM on Sunday, January 12, 2014 at E.J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 W. 21st Ave. Covington, LA 70433. Visiting hours on Sunday will begin at Noon. Interment at Pinecrest Memorial Gardens in Covington will immediately follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Francis Animal Sanctuary. ===================
