Helen Theodora Hartford Kirksey May, age 92, passed away at her Mandeville home 
on Saturday, January 4, 2014. 

Helen was born in Columbia, Mississippi, but lived much of her adult life in 
the Greater New Orleans area. She was a graduate of French Camp Academy High 
School and earned her teaching credentials at the University of Mississippi. 
She helped establish and/or taught at several area elementary schools such as 
Atonement Lutheran, Child’s World, and Clifton L. Ganus. She and her husband 
were owners of May Lumber Company and Kennedy Homes.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, Theodore Hartford Kirksey and Zella 
Wood Foreman, her beloved husband, Alexander David May, and her son, George 
Randy May. 

She is survived by her children, Gwendolyn Schillings (Keith) Voigts of Pass 
Christian, MS, Royce Adele May Joyce of Metairie, Genny May of New Orleans, 
Alexander Fred (Jackie) May of Mandeville, Zella Varee May of Mandeville, her 
devoted daughter-in-law, Teresa Heike May of Slidell, 15 grandchildren, five 
great grandchildren and a brother, Theodore Hartford Kirksey.

The family will celebrate her life in a private service at Honaker Funeral 
Home, Slidell 

followed by interment with beloved family members who preceded her in death at 
Sartinville Cemetery, Mississippi. 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the 
Sartinville Cemetery Association, 25 Willoughby Road, Jayess, MS 39641.
