Her adoptive parents provided her with a happy youth complete with horses, viola lessons, and good study habits. She graduated with a BS in biology from University of the Pacific, and after less than a week as a bachelorette, she married Charles Neuman 56 ½ years ago. She worked as a medical technologist and a research technician at the University of Illinois while her husband completed graduate school. After moving back to California, she became a mother to son Kenneth and daughter Kathleen both adopted as infants. She was a full-time mom until they went to school, and then became active in the Woman’s Division of the United Methodist Church. She enjoyed many vacations consisting of living for a couple weeks in a tent packed by horses into remote parts of the Sierra Mountains. When the children got too old for that, she enjoyed escaping teenagers by spending weekends on a sailboat in the Pacific Ocean. She reluctantly agreed to spend two years on a temporary assignment in Louisiana, and after a short time of living on a bayou decided that the temporary assignment should last for 25 years. She did not complain about twice living in a house that was completely disrupted by being flooded and had no interior walls below 4 feet, or about living in cheap motels while the house was elevated. She enjoyed trips to many Caribbean islands as well as Europe, Australia, and China. As she became less mobile, her preference changed to cruises, and in her last few years she enjoyed several cruises to exotic places where she never got off the ship. She enjoyed going to breakfast at LA Pines, and it often took her five minutes to get out the door because she needed to talk with people. She had a sense of humor that stayed with her to the end, She is survived by her husband Charles Neuman, son Kenneth Neuman, daughter Kathleen Wyneken, five grandchildren and three great grandchildren. A celebration of life will be conducted at Aldersgate United Methodist Church on Friday, January 24, at 11:00am. A Visitation time will begin at 10:00am. The family requests that in lieu of flowers a donation be made to the American Cancer Society or another charity. ===================
