MERNA ANN CHILDRESS SMITH, of Pearl River, LA, Loving mother, Grandmother, 
Great Grandmother, Sister, Aunt and Friend to many, passed away on Wednesday, 
January 1, 2014, at Heritage Manor in Slidell, La.

Beloved Wife of the late Lawrence J. Smith, Sr.
Mother of Lawrence J. Smith, Jr.; his wife, Laurie, of Cumming, Ga., and 
Jennifer Crawford; her husband, Michael, of Hickory, La.
Daughter of the late Louis Van Childress and Lucille Antonia LeBlanc Childress.
Sister of Roberta Smith and James Childress.
Also survived by 5 grandsons, Raymond, Michael, Billy, Aaron, Matthew and one 
great grandson, Tait and numerous nieces and nephews.

Age 81 years, Merna will be remembered by many as someone who would rush to the 
bedside of a sick friend or family member. In 1979 she completed her high 
school education, receiving her GED from Pearl River High School. In her more 
active years, she enjoyed making quilts and crocheting clothes for dolls. She 
was a member of Church of God of Prophecy and a follower of the teachings of 
Jesus Christ.

Our family would like to express it’s gratitude and sincere thanks to her 
extended church family and especially to the caregivers at Heritage Manor and 
St. Catherines Hospice, who helped comfort our Mother in her final days.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral
Services at HONAKER FUNERAL HOME,
1751 GAUSE Blvd. WEST (IN FOREST LAWN CEMETERY), Slidell, LA
on Tuesday, January 7, 2013 at 11:00 A.M.

Interment in FOREST LAWN CEMETERY.

Visitation on Tuesday after 9:00 A.M. until funeral time
