Our beloved ÒAunt LouiseÓ was 102 years old. She was the last surviving child of the ten children born to Andrea Carollo and Antonina (Pellerito) Carollo. Along with her parents, Louise was preceded in death by five brothers: Frankie, Russel (Cy), Charlie, Peter, and Victor Carollo, along with her four sisters: Lucretzia Carollo, Mary Carollo Siemssen, Sister Mary Ann Carollo, OSB, and Salena Carollo Fontana. In 1902, ÒPapaÓ Carollo arrived in Slidell from Sicily. He and ÒMamaÓ and their ten children were among the first families to settle and develop what is now referred to as Olde Towne. Louise was born and raised in old Slidell. She was proud to call it home for nearly all of her 102 years. As a child, she worked tirelessly alongside her siblings at ÒCarollo's Grocery,Ó the store her father opened at the corner of Carey and Robert Street. In later years, Louise cared for her aging parents, then for her older sister Salena in the home they shared in Olde Towne. Louise spent the final six years of her life surrounded by love, laughter, and the tender care of Ann, her god-daughter and great-niece, at Ann and Eric's home in Pearl River. Throughout her life, Louise's peaceful demeanor was a blessing, and she, in turn, was blessed with 102 years of remarkable strength, vigor, and health. Aunt Louise was known for her Òmovie-starÓ good looks, but never married. While she never had children of her own, she was as devoted as any loving parent to her dozens of nieces, nephews, their children, and grandchildren. We mourn our loss, but are consoled by the beautiful thought of Papa, Mama, and all ten children together again at last. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, 1050 Robert Blvd., Slidell, LA, on Saturday afternoon, February 15, 2014 at 1:30 p.m. Visitation at the church will begin at 11:30 a.m, until service time, followed by the burial at Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to St. Margaret Mary Church for the St. Anthony Poorbox Ministry ===================
