He was born on Saturday, October 7, 1933 in Chicago, IL to Morris R. and Ruth Puckette Carter and following a career which took him to numerous cities in the U.S., he came to reside in Mandeville, LA in 2006. The beloved husband of Carolyn Harris-Carter, Jim was previously married to Gena Hunter Carter and is survived by their three children - Geoffrey L. Carter (Sarah Jordan Carter), Rebecca L. Carter and James P. Carter, Jr. He is also survived by one brother - Morris Carter; three grandchildren - Evan, Elias and Casey Carter and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister - Ruth Carter. Relatives and friends are invited to attend funeral service at 10:30 AM on Friday, March 7, 2014 at E.J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 W. 21st Ave. Covington, LA 70433. Visiting hours at the funeral home on Friday will begin at 9:30 AM. Interment at Biloxi National Cemetery in Biloxi, MS will immediatley follow services.
