He passed away on March 2, 2014 in New Orleans. He was preceded in death by his mother Lela Mae Terry and father Robert Edward Lee Smothers Jr. Pete leaves behind his loving wife of 48 years Irene Lifsey Smothers, his beloved son Peter Foxe Smothers (Jennipher) and his 2 most precious grandchildren Gabrielle Lynn Smothers and Liam Foxe Smothers. He is also survived by his brother Robert Terry Smothers (Alyce) and sister Anne Smothers Ferranti(John) and numerous family members. He attended Alycee Fortier High School and Tulane University School of Engineering. He served in the U.S. Army Security Agency as an intelligence analyst. Pete also served as an acolyte at St. George's Episcopal Church with Father Richardson. In lieu of flowers, donations to The 10th Mountain Division Hut Association 1280 Ute Ave., Suite 21, Aspen, CO 81611 are preferred. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Passages Hospice for the love and care given him. We would also like to thank Ms. Duffie Mills and Ms. Elaine Peters who loved him and cared for him both at home and at hospice. Services will be held Saturday, March 8th at St. George's Episcopal Church, 4600 St. Charles Avenue in New Orleans. Visitation will be held from 11:30 am to 12:00 noon with a Mass of Communion at noon. Per his request, his ashes will be scattered from the top of Buckskin Pass, a spot that held special memories for him, outside of Aspen, Colorado in late July. A reception will follow at the home of our dear friend Mrs. Jumonville, 1210 Webster St. for those of you who wish to attend.
