He was a native of Algiers, La., moved to River Ridge in 1975 when he married Georgiana Huss Parham Stevens. They shared 38 years together. Upon his retirement in 1984, he moved to Slidell until Katrina when they relocated to Diamondhead, MS. He was a retired Chemist from Chevron Chemical, Oronite Division, Belle Chase, La. He graduated from St. Aloysius High School, Class of 1947 and later received a B.S. Degree in Chemistry from Tulane University. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1948-53 in the European Theatre and was a lifetime member of VFW Post #2880. Mel loved to dance and was proud to be a lifetime member of the Tammany Twirlers SQ &RD Dance Club. He is survived by his wife and stepchildren, Gregory Parham(Joann) and Shannon Labruzza, granddaughters, Allyson Labruzza, Amanda & Alexis Parham, nieces, nephews and many loving, devoted friends. Preceded in death by his parents, William P. and Celina Ballay Stevens; brother, William I. Stevens; sister, Gloria Stevens Paul and stepson, Haywood Parham. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Graveside Services at Forest Lawn Cemetery,1751 GAUSE Blvd. WEST, Slidell, LA on Friday, March 21 at 2:00 P.M. Visitation at the cemetery on Friday after 1:00 P.M. until Service time. Donations to the Jerusalem Shrine Transportation Unit, P.O. Box 712, Destrahan, La. 70047, preferred, in lieu of flowers. This unit offers free transportation to children and families to the ShrinerÕs Hospital U.S. Air Force ===================
