Derek Nelson Miller, 28 years old, passed away at 10:24 am on Tuesday, May 27, 
2014, 
after fighting a long courageous battle with AML Leukemia and Squamous Cell 
Carcinoma.

He is the son of James and Jean Miller, brother of James G. Miller, II (Jamie) 
and his wife, Dr. Suzanne Miller of Tampa, FL and the late Brittany Lauren 
Miller. He is also the grandson of Frances Rains of Englewood, FLH and numerous 
aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was a lifelong native of Slidell. While Studying Mass Communications as a 
full-time student at Xavier University, he discovered his passion for news and 
reporting. He cultivated that passion as an intern at WDSU and NBC affiliate in 
New Orleans, Where he learned, grew and fostered wonderful relationships with 
the staff.

Derek will be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor and smile, his 
positive attitude and the many friendships he incurred in his life. With his 
courage, he has reminded us that each day is a blessing and an opportunity to 
create lasting memories. He will be deeply missed by all who were touched by 
his love, friendship, kindness and compassion.

Visitation to be held at First United Methodist Church, 433 Erlanger street, 
Slidell, LA, on Saturday, May 31 from 11:00 am until the funeral service at 
1:00pm.
