Porky was a native of Lockport, La. and a resident of Covington for almost 64 years. Julian was predeceased by his parents, Emile Rodrigue and Flossie Hargis Rodrigue as well as his sisters Rosalee Heim, Sister Mary Claire Rodrigue C.I.C., and Rita Hamilton. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, JoEllen Heintz Rodrigue, his son Julian J. "Rod" Rodrigue Jr., and wife Mary Barker Rodrigue of Covington and his daughter Julie Rodrigue Carbo and husband Deke Carbo of Metairie. He is the beloved grandfather of MaryClaire Barker Rodrigue and Julian J. Rodrigue III. He is also survived by his brother Gerard Rodrigue and many nieces and nephews. Julian was born July 8, 1922 in Lockport, La. He graduated from high school in Lockport at the age of 15 and worked in the oil field, road construction and the local sugar mill until he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps in January 1942. He served until his honorable discharge in January 1946. After his military service he attended LSU on the G.I. Bill where he was president of Sigma Chi Fraternity, a member of Gamma Eta Gamma legal fraternity and Phi Eta Sigma scholastic fraternity. While at LSU he met JoEllen Heintz, a native of Covington. Upon graduating from LSU Law School in 1950 he moved to Covington where he married JoEllen and began the practice of law. He was actively engaged in the practice of law and in the Covington community for 63 years. He served as the Assistant District Attorney for St. Tammany and Washington Parish from 1961 to 1979. He was a member of the Robert H. Burns American Legion Post and served as Judge Advocate for over 30 years. He was a founding member and past president of Covington Country Club, past president of the Covington Rotary Club and a Paul Harris Fellow, a founding member and past King of the Krewe of K C, Past member and King of the Krewe of Olympia, member of the Board of Directors of the Public Affairs Research Council, past District Chairman of the Boy Scouts of America, past State Judge Advocate for Amvets, Member of the American Bar Association, past President of the Covington Bar Association, a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council 3061. He was a member of the ChancellorÕs Council at LSU Law School and a member of Les Avocats. He proudly served as chairman of the Board of Directors of Citizens Bank & Trust Co. until his death. Porky was proud of his Bayou Lafourche roots but he loved living, working and raising his family in Covington. He was an avid fan of the LSU Tigers and followed them through thick and thin until his death. Most of all he adored his grandchildren and was happiest with them around. We are so sad to lose him but will cherish all of our memories. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral mass at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, May 14, 2014 at St. Peter Catholic Church, 125 E. 19th Ave. Covington, La. 70433. A wake is scheduled to take place from 6-9:00 PM on Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at E.J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 W. 21st Ave. Covington, La. 70433. Visiting hours at the church Wednesday will begin at 9:30 AM. Private burial services will immediately follow mass at Covington Cemetery #1.
