In loving memory of Elena (Helen) Ana Laucirica Chambers, who passed away 
peacefully on July 1, 2014. 

A native of Manhattan whose family hailed from the beautiful Basque village of 
Ea, Vizcaya, Spain, Elena was born on March 15, 1937. 

She attended boarding school at Sacred Heart of Jesus School in Berriz, Spain, 
was a member of the consular corps of the U.S. State Department, and lived 
abroad for a good portion of her life before moving to Baton Rouge in 1976 with 
her two children, Bego–a Chambers Landry of Covington, Louisiana, and Charles 
Anthony Chambers of Pensacola Beach, Florida. 

While living in Baton Rouge, Elena was a licensed real estate agent and a 
member of the pastoral council of St. PatrickÕs Catholic Church. She moved to 
the New Orleans area in 1989 where among other activities she worked at MacyÕs 
at New Orleans Centre and was a licensed tour guide. 

A strong, compassionate woman of great humor and deep patriotism, Elena also 
was a devout Catholic and a parishioner of Mary, Queen of Peace Catholic Church 
in Mandeville, Louisiana. 

Among her greatest pleasures in life were the times she spent with her adored 
grandchildren, Melissa M. Landry of Manhattan, and Sarah E. Landry and Matthew 
A. Landry of Covington, her beloved family in Spain, and the many friends she 
made while enjoying all that life had to offer, particularly traveling to the 
Basque Country, taking cruises, Mardi Gras, Jazz Fest, and FrancoÕs Health Club 
in Mandeville. 

Elena also endeared herself to many St. Tammany Parish healthcare professionals 
who tirelessly tended to her medical needs and for whose dedicated attention 
and sincere concern her family will eternally be grateful. 

In addition to her children and grandchildren, Elena is survived by her sister 
Maria Mercedes Laucirica Belategui and brother-in-law Pedro Belategui of Las 
Arenas, Vizcaya, Spain, her son-in-law Stephen A. Landry of Covington, her 
sister-in-law Esther Bilbao Laucirica of Atlanta, nieces Elena Belategui of 
Monterrey, Mexico, Bego–a Belategui of Miami, and Maria Esther Laucirica of 
Atlanta, nephews Jon Gandarias of Madrid, Jose Javier Gandarias of Madrid, 
Mikel Gandarias of Huelva, Spain, and Javier A. Laucirica III of San Francisco, 
numerous loving grandnieces and grandnephews in Spain, the children of many 
friends who considered her their Amuma (grandmother in Euskera, the Basque 
language), and countless other friends near and far. 

Elena was preceded in death by her mother Maria Mercedes Zaracondegui 
Laucirica, her father Xavier Antonio Laucirica, her sister Bego–a Laucirica 
Gandarias, her brother Xavier Antonio Laucirica, and her brother-in-law Jose 
Gandarias.

Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate ElenaÕs life on Saturday, July 
12, 2014, by attending a visitation at 11:00am with a following memorial mass 
at 1:00pm at Mary, Queen of Peace Catholic Church located at 1501 West Causeway 
Approach in Mandeville. 

Burial services will be private, as ElenaÕs wishes were to return to the Basque 
Country for interment. 

In lieu of flowers, ElenaÕs family requests prayers for and donations to the 
Teresian Sisters located at 18080 St. JosephÕs Way, Covington, Louisiana 70435.
