Please go to http://usgwarchives.net/la/sttammany/obits/dateobits/2014/st1408.htm and click to view list of photos. ========== George Sidney Menard Sr., born in New Orleans, LA on February 12th, 1938, was a resident of Slidell, Louisiana for 68 years. On August 5, 2014, at the age of 76, Sid entered into eternal rest at home with his loving wife of 30 years, Margaret West Menard, by his side. Sid and Joan Rashid Menard had four children: Pamela Menard Boyd, Denise Menard Dunham, George Sidney Menard Jr. (wife Eileen)and Kevin Francis Menard. Sid is also survived by his brother, Robert Louis Menard Sr.; his two step-daughters, Sloan Halus and Mary Binder; ten grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents Mr. And Mrs. Paul Auguste Menard Sr., brother Paul Auguste Menard Jr., sister Mary Frances Menard Alexander, and granddaughter Michelle Dunham Burlett. Sid graduated from Jesuit High School in New Orleans in 1956 and from the University of Detroit in 1961, where he graduated with honors and earned his BachelorŐs Degree in Mechanical Engineering. He was a member of Pi Tau Sigma National Honorary Mechanical Engineering Fraternity. He received a MasterŐs degree in Automotive Engineering from the Chrysler Institute and became certified as a Professional Engineer in 1963. SidŐs career began in the automotive industry. He was employed by Chrysler Motor Company and American Motors where he was awarded a number of patents for both companies. After 10 years in the automotive industry, he joined the family business, P.A. Menard Wholesale Grocery, where Sid worked with his brothers. After three decades of working in the family business, Sid took on a second career during his retirement in the real estate business, working for Latter & Blum. Sid had a passion for model trains, which was his lifelong hobby. He will always be remembered for his quick wit and sense of humor. Laughter was always part of the Menard home and family gatherings were an integral part of his life. He was immensely proud of all of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. The service and mass will be held at St. GenevieveŐs Church in Slidell, LA on Monday, August 11th, 2014, with visitation to begin at 11:00 and mass to commence at 1:00. Interment will occur at Lakelawn Metairie Funeral Home & Cemetery immediately after church services.
