He is survived by his beloved wife, Linda Fitz Charles Neville, and their daughter Laura Neville Bryant, with whom he shared his life and his home, most recently in Pearl River, Louisiana. Scott had a 34-year career as an instrumentation engineer and member of the faculty at the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in New Orleans. His work involved doing whatever needed to be done, using whatever technical skills and considerable ingenuity that he brought to bear on fabricating and fixing scientific laboratory equipment for researchers and physicians on campus. Scott was modest, hard working, patient, and had a great sense of humor; he was a doer and a helper. He was one of the unsung heroes of hurricane Katrina; always ready to help others and endlessly generous with his time and considerable expertise in troubleshooting and making mechanical repairs; helping to fix the worldÕs most tangible dilemmas; helping others to make that next move, both literally and figuratively. At home, he was a tinkerer par excellence always ready to take on new projects with and for friends and family. He enjoyed beloved pets over his lifetime including his dogs Freckles, Brandywine, OÕShea, Russett, and Gizmo, and is survived by his loyal friend, Toby. He loved the outdoors, especially camping, fishing, and boating, and was an accomplished water-skier. He was a life-long drummer; he enjoyed classic rock and Christian rock styles of music, while he played in multiple bands at festivals and venues around New Orleans. As a drummer and as a person, he was truly the steadfast heartbeat of the gathering. Born October 3, 1953 in Wilmington, Delaware, Robert Scott Neville was the son of Maynard Neville and Vivien Swaine, and is brother to Sonny (Maynard Jr.) Neville. Scott grew up in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania. He was the very proud father-of- the-bride to Laura at her marriage to Matthew Bryant in February of 2014. Scott was a faithful son, brother, husband, father, and dear friend whose memory will be deeply cherished. He leaves many dear friends and family with whom he enjoyed holidays, trips, gatherings, and celebrations. A service will be held to celebrate his life on Saturday, August 16, 2014 at 1 pm at Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Slidell, Louisiana. Arrangements will be made by Honaker Funeral Home of Slidell, LA. In lieu of flowers, donations in R. Scott NevilleÕs memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, Patient Services Hope Lodge Fund (www.cancer.org or 1 (800) 227-2345, press option 2) to help patients and their families afford short-term housing while staying away from their homes to receive cancer treatment. ===================
