Vance, age 87, of Mandeville, passed peacefully from this life to eternity on August 4, 2014 surrounded and supported by her loving family after a courageous year long battle with ovarian cancer. She was born on February 19, 1927 in Dixon, MS to Clifton and Lessie Hardy Vance. A resident of Mandeville since 1966, Rose remained a strong, independent Mississippi woman AND PROUD OF IT! She is survived by her loving and caring daughter Kim Maddox (Randy). She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers - Rudolph and Shull Vance. She is also survived by her three adoring grandchildren - Ashley Maddox Kennedy (Kevin), Amy Maddox Garrett (Chris) and Trey Maddox (Ellie), all of the northshore. Rose was most proud of her nine great grandchildren - Hannah, Patrick and Sarah Kennedy, Breanna, Maddie, Emma and Maelee Garrett and Lila and Beckett Maddox. Rose graduated from Delta State University and received her MasterÕs Degree from Mississippi State University and her plus 30 from Southeastern Louisiana University. She began her career in education at Mandeville Elementary in 1966. Rose began teaching 3rd grade, was promoted to Assistant Principal and retired as the schoolÕs Principal in 1990. She was a dedicated teacher, her true love, and impacted an entire generation by nurturing and molding children to gain self respect as well as knowledge. A charter member of New Covenant Presbyterian Church in Mandeville in 1979, Rose was a devoted and faithful member, volunteering her time in retirement not only to the church but to the Mandeville Samaritan Center. She was a member of many bridge groups and was a master at Scrabble and crossword puzzles. She loved spending time with her family and treasured going to the camp every chance she got. Once a teacher, always a teacher, Rose could be found reading to her grandkids and imparting knowledge every chance she had. She will be sorely missed by her family and many friends.
