Please go to http://usgwarchives.net/la/sttammany/obits/dateobits/2014/st1409.htm and click to view list of photos. ========== Robert ÒBobÓ Alexander Baird, age 92, passed away peacefully in his sleep in Slidell, LA on Tuesday, September 16, 2014. Born on January 13, 1922, in Oklahoma City, OK, Bob was adopted as an orphaned infant by two caring school teachers, Mary ÒMaimieÓ Baird and Katie Baird who lovingly doted over him on their farm in Kansas. Bob joined the military at a young age and was a 37 year veteran, serving in the U.S. Army, attaining the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 4 upon his retirement in 1982. After retiring, Bob devoted his time, energy and dedication to the American Legion, traveling near and far to attend numerous conventions, meetings and workshops. He held various positions on the local, district and state levels, including serving as Post Commander and Vice Commander for local Post 185, Commander for District 6, and was a member of the State Department Executive Committee. Bob is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Geraldine ÒGerryÓ Garrett Baird, and three sons, Judge James ÒJimÓ Lamz (Deanna), Randy Lamz and Brian Baird, three grandchildren, James ÒJimmyÓ Lamz (Nicole), Miranda Lamz and Jonathan Lamz, eight great grandchildren, one sister, Florence Janness, several in-laws, Sharon Olmsted, Karen Thomas, Leonard Garrett (Bea), Patricia Thomas(Ralph), Karen McGlothin, and Albert Garrett (Marleen), several cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Visitation will be held at on Tuesday, September 23, 2014 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. with funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at Honaker Funeral Home, 1751 Gause Blvd.,West, Slidell, LA. Burial will immediately follow with a funeral procession and military honors at graveside at the Southeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery,34888 Grantham College Road,Slidell. Relatives and friends are welcome for a small gathering at LaRosetta Restaurant, 348 Robert Road, Slidell after the graveside ceremony. In lieu of flowers, donations in BobÕs name to American Legion Post 185 are preferred. Thanks to Sharon Olmsted for her help and support, she has been a blessing throughout this trying time, and to Karen Olmsted for being there from day one with a shoulder to lean on. Thanks also to ComforCare, especially Quinnelle (BobÕs nighttime protector and smiling angel), and to Michele Asgian (BobÕs private caregiver and daytime angel) who both went above and beyond their job descriptions.
