Beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Phyllis Hamilton Hoke died 
peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving children on Thursday, September 
25, 2014. 

She was born Phyllis Lanell Hamilton, the ninth of ten children in Isola, MS to 
Nanne Mae Waters and John Hamilton on July 14, 1930. She later married Tommy 
Hall Hoke of Mississippi, and they had eight biological children and one 
adopted son.

At age 38, Phyllis became a widow and solely responsible for her children. She 
accepted the challenge, worked tirelessly and eventually became a pioneer for 
working women. She founded and managed a successful chain of personal care 
homes that would provide countless families with loving alternatives to nursing 
homes.

The beloved wife of the late Tommy Hoke, she is survived by six children: Tommy 
Hoke, Toxie H. Penton, Tilda H. Russo, Timothy, Thomas and Paul Hoke; 24 
grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. 

She was preceded in death by her parents and three of her children: Ricky and 
Terry Hoke and Loretta Hoke Giovingo.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend funeral services at 12:00 Noon on 
Tuesday, September 30, 2014 at E.J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 W. 21st Ave. 
Covington, LA 70433.
Visitation will begin Tuesday morning at 10:00 AM.

Interment at the Theodore Dendinger Cemetery in Madisonville, LA will 
immediately follow services.
