Passed away September 30th, 2014 of a heart attack, he was 85. The loving father of Vicki L. Sanders, Lisa A. Bailey, Lori E. Brusstar and Lynne T. Lee. He was the son of the late Mabel Kurz Sanders, and Frederick H. Sanders. Brother of Irwin Sanders, Frederick Sanders, Jr. and Linda Mears. Also survived by six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Joe was a people person, loved to talk and tell stories, was full of life, and lived a full life. Mr. Sanders was a native of New Orleans and a resident of Mandeville for the past 9 years. While at Warren Easton High School, he was a member of the band; he became an Eagle Scout, a certified lifeguard, and worked as such at Stallings Playground. He swam competitively, was a member of the track team, ran cross country, including the Jackson Day Race, joined the Key Club and became President of the State organization. He was an altar boy and sang in the Church choir. Joe attended L.S.U., and then entered the insurance business, which he continued for the rest of his life. He participated in local theatre appearing in several productions, and once being named outstanding male lead. Joe in his later years started being a substitute teacher in some Mandeville Schools, and loved it, and loved the kids he taught. Joe is fondly remembered, and will be missed. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the memorial services at E.J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 W. 21st Avenue, Covington, LA 70433 on October 18, 2014 at 2:00 PM with visitation at 1:00 PM.
