She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank Perkins, Sr. and Lolitha Cousin Perkins; her husband, Charles R. Silvan, Sr.; and one brother, Richard J. Perkins, Sr. She graduated from Covington Rosenwald School in May 1960 and attended Tulane. She married Silvan and from that union they had three children, Lennie Morrison, Yolanda Moneta Nixon (Mitchell) and Charles Jonathan Silvan (Laura). She leaves to mourn four brother, Grover Perkins, Sr., Adrian Perkins (Frankie), Frank Perkins, Jr. and Carl Perkins (Vanessa); five sisters, Aleta Perkins Silvan, Mary Perkins Cyprian, Sandra P. Graves (Paul), Lolitha Perkins Beckham and Kim Phillips (Dewayne);Kim Perkins; also seven grandchildren, one great-grandchild and a host of nieces and nephews. In 1972, Alma and her family relocated to Norwich, CT where she began employment with Qwest Diagnostics. She received numerous accolades and awards for her invaluable services. Later she began her career as an educator at the Huntington Institute where she was honored for having the highest success rate of graduates during her fifteen year career. Alma’s performance remained in the top 100 percent. Retiring in July of 1997, she returned home to Covington, LA. Upon returning home, Alma, enjoyed her time with her family and friends, traveled, and continued to enhance her relationship with and worship the Lord. Alma embodied the true essence of a Christian woman. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at St. Peter Catholic Church, 125 E. 19th Ave., Covington, LA 70433 on Thursday, October 16, 2014 at 11:00 AM with visitation at church on Thursday beginning at 10:00 AM. ===================
