Julia Lorene Atkisson Somers died peacefully surrounded by her loved ones on Sunday, November 2, 2014 in Mandeville, LA at the age of 91. 

She was a loving mother, adored grandmother, sister and friend.

Julia is survived by her children, Nancy Podsiadlik, Darci Compton (Steve), Julie Runyon (Glen); sister, Vera Kaser; grandchildren, Jennifer Siravo, Dustin Somers, Teri Huntley, Peter John Eichhorn, Katie Smith (Phil), Steven Compton, and Natalie Runyon Vizioli (Gary) and 13 great grandchildren. 

She is preceded in death by her parents, Sidney Atkisson and Marie Atkisson Simpson; husband John David Somers; son John David Somers, Jr. and siblings Loretta Holt and Roy Atkisson. 

Julia was born on January 16, 1923 in Augusta, KS. She was married to John David Somers for 48 years.

Julia will be remembered for her love of music, impeccably kept garden, generous and kind spirit, infectious laugh and constant twinkle. She was a long-time member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and leaves behind many wonderful friends, who were much more like family.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Service at 11:30 AM on Thursday, November 06, 2014 at The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-Day Saints, 2638 W 15th Ave. Covington, LA 70433. Visitation on Thursday, November 06, 2014 from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM at the church. 

Interment in Pinecrest Memorial Gardens Covington, LA.
