He was born to Leona Fortier and Legon Chanel on February 4, 1937. A native and lifelong resident of Madisonville, LA, he spent his career working in the Madisonville shipyard (the former Equitable Marine) and was a dedicated parishioner of St. Anselm Catholic Church. He is survived by one brother - Melvin G. Chanel (Geraldine); his God-daughter - Monica A. Chanel; a son – Curtis Harrell, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers - Joseph, Leo, Charles and Anthony Chanel and two sisters - Alice Darensburg and Leona Thomas. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral mass at 12 Noon on Monday, January 26, 2015 at St. Anselm Catholic Church, 306 St. Mary St. Madisonville, LA 70447. Visiting hours at the Church will begin at 10:00 AM. Interment at the Madisonville Cemetery will immediately follow mass. E.J. Fielding Funeral Home of Covington, LA has been entrusted with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Anselm Catholic Church or masses are preferred. ===================
