Born to Roy and Evelyn Grob and raised in the Lakeview neighborhood of New Orleans, Roy attended De La Salle High School. After graduation from Loyola University, he married his high school sweetheart, Gail Pierce, in the summer of 1966. Roy served two active years of service in the Navy, and then completed his Doctor of Dental Sciences in Chicago, IL. Roy and Gail settled to raise a family in the quieter side of the city, Covington. He lived here for the rest of his life and is survived by Gail. Perfect smiles across the Northshore are one of Dr. Grob’s greatest legacies. Just recently retired from his orthodontic practice of 40-plus years, he cared deeply for his patients and took great pride in his work. Beyond being a dedicated professional, Roy was a devoted husband, loving father, and faithful friend. He is survived by his three daughters and their husbands: Kimberly Grob and Kevin Lee (Salt Lake City, UT), Jennifer and Neal Jackson (Birmingham, AL), Amy and Matt Miller (Dallas, TX). His conversations, wise advice and passion for their families and careers will be deeply missed. He also leaves behind his two sisters, Beth Grob and Loretta (John) Cinquigranno, both of Covington, as well as countless nieces, nephews, and beloved extended family. But his proudest legacy lives on in his six grandchildren: Pierce & Celie Jackson, Miles & Amelia Lee, Hayden & Evelyn Miller. “Big Roy” is very much alive in their passion for music, athletic accomplishments, artistic endeavors, and kind, gentle spirits. He introduced them to the unique culture and food of Louisiana and leaves them with many memories of fun adventures. A New Orleanian to the core, he was loyal to the Saints before they won the Super Bowl and continued to “believe” every season after. He could crack a crab or peel a crawfish in two seconds, and polish off a plate of beignets and a black coffee just as fast. He was a devotee to the Jazz Fest back when you could bring in your own cooler and before there were corporate sponsors. He loved Mardi Gras and was not ashamed to plead “for the little girl” when holding his granddaughter up to a passing float. Surrounded by the Tchefuncte River and Lake Ponchartrain he spent much of his life on the water and even furthered this love with a sailboat he named “Fiyo on the Bayou.” His heart broke when Katrina wrecked his beloved city, but he remained committed to the place he called home. The restaurants of the Northshore will surely miss him as will his weekly lunch buddies Bob and A.J. He was a fixture at the Covington Farmers Market. Roy’s life will be celebrated with a memorial service at Northshore Unitarian Universalist Society, 28662 Krentel Road, Lacombe, LA 70445 on Saturday, January 24th at 2pm with a Visitaton from 1:00 PM until service time. In lieu of flowers, in memorium donations can be made Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center of Covington. US Navy ===================
