All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgenweb.org/volunteers/copyright.shtml ======================================================================= HINES, MARCUS HARLAN Marcus Harlan Hines, a resident of Pearl River, Louisiana known to many as Mark Hines, passed away at the age of 71 on Saturday, January 24, 2015, at St. Tammany Parish Hospital in Covington, Louisiana. Mark had been battling lung cancer since he was diagnosed in late August 2014. His loving family was by his bedside when he left this earth to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Mark was born on February 1, 1943, at the home of his parents, Jason and Lizzie Hines, in the Acy’s Creek Community of Washington Parish, Louisiana. He is survived by his loving wife, Elizabeth Gayle Swenson Hines, his son, Jason H. Hines, and his daughter, Andrea E. Hines Picou, his son-in-law, Scott Picou; and six grandchildren whom he loved and enjoyed so much – Hannah Altazan, Joshua Hines, Jonathan Hines, Kinley Shae Picou, Jeremy Lee, and Peyton Picou. He is also survived by his sister, Ida Nell Hines Wright, his brother, Rev. Billy Ray Hines, his sisters-in-law, Glenda Sue Hines, Dorothy Hines, Kathy Swenson Norton, and brothers-in-law, Douglas Swenson and George Norton; and many loving nieces and nephews and their families. Mark was preceded in death by his parents, Jason and Lizzie Hines, two brothers, Clayton Hines and Rev. Silas Thomas, sister-in-law, Lela Thomas, and brothers-in-law, Winfred Passman and Thad Wright. Mark was a member of the Army National Guard spending 6 months active duty in Fort Knox, Kentucky, and the remainder of his service commitment with the Army National Guard in Franklinton, Louisiana. He was Honorably Discharged on September 30, 1964. Mark’s working career began as an electrician working with local contractors and CLECO. Then he worked as a computer operator with LTV at the NASA Slidell Computer Complex for three years before transferring to Arlington, Texas. He and his family spent 7 years in the Dallas-Fort Worth area before transferring back home to Louisiana working as a salesman for a meat-packing firm. He later went to work at Lockheed Martin (then known as Martin Marietta) and worked on the External Tank Program for 10 years. His next endeavor was operating his own 18-wheeler until he retired at the age of 62. Then, he began working with the St. Tammany Parish School Board as a substitute bus driver until he became too ill to continue in August 2014. In addition to the above working career, Mark loved to work in his garden. He gained much pleasure in sharing his vegetables with widows, friends, neighbors, and anyone who enjoyed cooking home-grown food. Mark also wanted to serve his community and spent a number of years on the Slidell Memorial Hospital Board and the St. Tammany Planning and Zoning Commission representing the Sixth District. He was always ready and willing to help those in need. He enjoyed sports and was active as a Coach in youth sports when his children were playing and coached many youngsters in the community. Mark and his family were members of First Baptist Church Pearl River for more than 37 years where he served faithfully as a member of the Church Choir. During this time he was also involved in the Youth Group, worked in the Nursery, taught Sunday School, worked as janitor, and served as he was needed. He loved his church, his church family and made many wonderful and loving friendships over the years. Mark has left a permanent memory of compassion, love and giving spirit that will be forever cherished by his precious family, community and church family. Services were held on Tuesday, January 27, 2015 at D.T. Williams Funeral Home located at 67525 Hwy 41, Pearl River, Louisiana visitation from 10:00AM until 2:00PM with services starting at 2:00PM. Interment followed at Austin Cemetery also located in Pearl River, Louisiana ===================
