POWERS, of Slidell, LA, passed away on Thursday, January 15, 2015. Preceded in death by his parents, daughter Lisa Anne Powers and son, William C. Powers,III. George is survived by his wife of 53 years, Saundra, daughter Lolita Guyllette(Daniel), granddaughter, Christina M. Adams(Jason), great granddaughter, Sophia Lynn Adams, great grandson Nathan William Adams, sister Peggy Andrews, nephews, nieces and many friends. George was born in Port Gibson, MS. To William C. Powers, Sr., and Katie R. Powers. He left high school in Jan. 1960 to join the Air Force. After months of computer schooling, he was assigned to Keesler AFB, MS. While at Keesler, he completed high school. George met his wife, Saundra, who was also in the Air Force. They were married in Biloxi, MS., on August 20, 1961, while still on active duty. George got a Holiday Discharge in Nov. 1963 and then joined the Navy in Feb. 1964. He and his family traveled from Charleston, S.C. to Ft. Campbell, KY to Kunia Naval Station, Hawaii, to Pensacola, FL., to Norfolk, VA., where he retired from the USS Eisenhower, CVN69, Dec. 19, 1979. After flipping a coin as to where to go, George decided on the Westbank of New Orleans, La. He entered Delgado College, completed an Associates Degree in Business Management. George then went to work for the Department of Defense in June 1982 until his retirement on April 4, 2004. After retirement, George, his wife and daughter took a trip to Yellowstone over Labor Day, coming back through Las Vegas on September 9 and heard about the Bombings on 9/11. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Memorial Services at HONAKER FUNERAL HOME, 1751 GAUSE Blvd. WEST (IN FOREST LAWN CEMETERY), Slidell, LA on Monday, January 26, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. Interment will be private. Visitation on Monday after 9:00 A.M. until funeral time. Donations to the Kidney Foundation,preferred, in lieu of flowers. ===================
