He was the beloved son of the late Pearl Bowen Rowe and Edward F. Rowe. He was the loving father of Robert Rowe, Linda Oldacre (wife of Joe Oldacre) and Scott Rowe (husband of Leslie Rowe). He was the brother of Clifford Rowe, Sr., Lynn Rowe, Sr., Jeannette Rowe and Ester Dracheberg. He was the grandfather of Molly Rowe, William Rowe, Adam Oldacre, Elizabeth Oldacre, Matthew Oldacre, Nathan Oldacre, Sierra Rowe, Ryker Rowe, and Cheyenne Rowe. Mr. Rowe was preceded in death by his parents and siblings and his grandson, William Rowe. Mr. Rowe was married to his wife, Jean, for fifty-seven years. Mr. Rowe was born in Houston, Texas, on February 23, 1925. Mr. Rowe was one of five children whose father was a minister in the Houston and East Texas area. Mr. Rowe served in the Army Air Force during World War II and also attended the University of Houston. He subsequently joined Southwestern Decorators, Inc., a firm that promoted Home Shows and Boat Shows across the Gulf Coast region from Corpus Christi, Texas, all the way into Florida. In the early 1950's, Mr. Rowe and his wife, Jean, moved to New Orleans where he opened Rowe & Associates, Inc., his own company which promoted and staged Home Shows and Boat Shows also in the Gulf Coast area. Mr. Rowe was also in the advertising business as well during this time. Mr. Rowe was a man dedicated to working with youth and also underprivileged youth in New Orleans. He served as Scout Master of Cub Scout Pack 186 and as Scout Master of Boy Scout Troop 187 for over fifteen years. Mr. Rowe took his Boy Scouts on countless hiking and camping trips and he also, as a member of the Optimist Club of New Orleans, established the Junior Optimist Club to continue to work with boys and young men of all ages. The highlight of his career was taking his Boy Scout Troop and Junior Optimist Club members on a refurbished school bus to the World's Fair in Montreal, Canada, in 1967 (camping out every night). In approximately 1961, Mr. Rowe started Rowe Contracting Services, Inc. and its predecessor company, Clean Sweep, Inc. Mr. Rowe's business interests evolved into a large Federal contracting firm which provided services for the Federal government and the military, both domestically and internationally with over twelve hundred employees at its peak. Mrs. Jean Rowe, Mr. Rowe's wife, and his three children all worked in the businesses while growing up which provided a firm foundation for his children in life, particularly with respect to learning to be independent and self- supporting in every way. One of Mr. Rowe's legacies is also represented in the successful lives of the young men he supported and counseled over the years as a Boy Scout Leader and Leader of the Junior Optimist Club. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the memorial services at E. J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 W. 21st Avenue, Covington, Louisiana 70433, on Monday, February 9, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. with visitation on Monday beginning at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests any donations in memory of Mr. Rowe be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America.
