Russell was born 1 of 7 daughters born to the late Frank Russell Jr. and Florence McGary Baptiste in Covington, Louisiana in a part of town known to family members as “White Settlement.” Her sisters include Yvonne Palmer, Mary Parker, Florence Ramsey, Audrey Viola Donel and 2 sisters that preceded her in death Isabelle Russell and Gladys Thomas. Lola graduated from Covington Rosenwald in 1964. In January 1965, she married Raymond Sylve, Jr. and to that union 2 children were born, Melissa A. Sylve and Welden R. Sylve. She lived in Madisonville, Louisiana for 27 years before moving to Lacombe, Louisiana in the year 2000. She worked for 26 years and retired from Southeast Louisiana Hospital in Mandeville, Louisiana. She was a dedicated housekeeper for over 40 years to a host of private homeowners who loved her dearly. Lola rarely met a stranger. She was a people person and always had a smile to share or something funny to say to make you laugh. She was a nature lover and took long walks by the lakefront or you could find her sitting at the water’s edge at Sunset Point in Mandeville. From early morning risings and sitting on her back porch listening to the birds chirp to late evening watering her many plants and flowers. Lola leaves to mourn her memories 4 sisters, Yvonne Palmer, Mary Parker of Madisonville, Louisiana, Florence Ramsey of Abita Springs, Louisiana and Audrey Viola Donel of Sacramento, California, 2 children, Welden (Keisha) of Sugarland, Texas and Melissa of Hammond, Louisiana 2 grandchildren, Kenneth Phillips, Jr and Ashton Phillips of Slidell, Louisiana, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends and coworkers. We would like to give our heartfelt thanks to her devoted sister/friend Ms. Amanda Ducre a.k.a “Ole Paint” for being there whenever we needed her and throughout her illness. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the memorial services at E.J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 W. 21st Avenue, Covington, LA 70433 on Saturday, February 14, 2015 at 11:00 AM with visitation beginning at 10:00 AM. ===================
