Merlin was born to Ellen Laura Stevens and Ludwig Christian Anthon on Thursday, December 8, 1932 in Hammond, LA. Merlin was the beloved husband of Ruth Walker Anthon for 63 years. He is survived by his wife; three sons – Charles G. Anthon (Karen) of Katy, TX, Allan C. Anthon (Melissa) of Tucson, AZ and James W. Anthon of Phoenix, AZ; two daughters - Merle L. Harper (Alton) of Robert, LA and Barbara R. Maille (Donald) of Holden, LA; one daughter-in-law - Michelle P. Anthon of Covington, LA; one brother – Paul B. Anthon (Aimee) of Hammond, LA; one sister – Eliska A. Fauntleory (J.E.) of Hammond, LA; one brother-in-law – Charles G. Walker (Kathy) of Baton Rouge, LA. 14 grandchildren - Daniel (Talia), Jeremy, Thomas Maille, Robert Harper, Spc 1st Joshua Maille (Jacqueline), James Jr., Naomi Mitchel (Nick), Mary Williams (Brandon), Anna Penrod (Herb), April Wiesner (Chris), Elizabeth Beaudet (C.J.), Sarah Cowart (David), Brandie and Julia. 11 great-grandchildren – Noah & Nala Mitchel; Leah, Micah & Hannah Anthon; Lele & Kaitlyn Penrod; Charlotte Wiesner; Aiden Williams; Nathanial Anthon and James Beaudet. Merlin was proceeded in death by his parents; two brothers – John Gilbert Anthon, George Carson Anthon and his foster daughter, Barbara J. Gerber, whom he cared for and loved for 30 years. Merlin served in the U.S Air Force and was a proud veteran of the Korean War. He became an ordained minister in 1960 and was pastor of the Open Door Tabernacle in Hammond, LA. Merlin was a resident of Lacombe, LA for 50 years and was the owner of M.C. Anthon Waterwell Drilling until his retirement in 2005. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service at 12 noon on Saturday, March 21, 2015 at E.J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 West 21st Ave, Covington, LA 70433 with visitation on Saturday from 10 am until noon. Service will be conducted by Br. Bill Ivy of Living Word Tabernacle. Internment at the Southeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery in Slidell, LA will take place at a later date.
