Smith of Mandeville passed away on Saturday, March 7, 2015 at the age of 74 from lung disease. Predeceased by her husband, Don E. Smith, and her parents, Elery and Helen Dielenschneider Davis, Joan leaves behind two sons, Steve King (Charlotte) and Chris King (Marianne), their father, Donald, three stepsons, Randy Smith (Adele), Don E. Smith, Jr., and Steve Smith (Lisa), as well as a sister, Louise Hampton, three grandchildren Brittany, Justin and Meghan and two great- grandchildren. Joan retired from the St. Tammany Parish School Board and was a graduate of Mandeville High School. She reigned as Miss St. Tammany in 1959 and as Queen of the Krewe of Juno in 1982. She was an active member of the community, worked on many political campaigns, was past president of the Mandeville JC/Jaynes and was the founding member of the Krewe of Eve, where she served as the Krewe’s Co-Captain for 14 years. Our family would like to send a special thank you to her close friends and neighbors who lent a helping hand during her prolonged illness. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, 312 Lafitte St., Mandeville, LA, on Saturday, March 14, 2015, at 12:00 p.m. Visitation will be at the church from 10:00 a.m. until service time. Interment will follow in the Mandeville City Cemetery, Mandeville, LA. ===================
