She was born March 3, 1925 in New Orleans to the late Leon Salles and Louise Guerins Salles. She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Gerard Mitchell Bennett, her sisters Carrie Mae Nicosia and Mamie Galliand, and her brothers Edward and Joseph Kolb. She and her husband lived in Shreveport from 1953 to 1969 when they relocated to Little Rock, Arkansas and lived for 35 years prior to retiring to Covington in 2005. She is survived by her three daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra and John O’Neal, Pam and Charley Fisher, and Candace and Trevor Watkins. She had seven grandchildren: Christopher O’Neal (wife Victoria), Johnny O’Neal (wife Beverly), Shawn Hanscom, Patrick Bartley (wife Kelly), Bennett Bartley, Catherine Bartley Guess (husband Brad) and Trevor Watkins, Jr.; and three step grandchildren: Melissa Dugger, Milly Barrios and Ben Fisher. She had four great-grandchildren: Jack and Derek O’Neal, Madeleine O’Neal, and Brooke Bartley. Hazel was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School in New Orleans. She had a career in real estate in Shreveport, and spent many years as a volunteer at St. Vincent Infirmary in Little Rock where she served as president of the Women’s Auxiliary. She was a member of the Nicollettes, an all female orchestra that played music across the Gulf Coast while her husband served in the Pacific during WWII. She was a member of Christ the King Parish in Little Rock and was very involved with the Carmelite Sisters. A family service will be held in Covington. Her family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff of Christwood Retirement Community where she spent the last six years of her life in their incredibly dedicated and capable care. E.J. Fielding funeral home of Covington has been entrusted with arrangements. In remembrance, the family is suggesting donations to the Alzheimer's Foundation at Help End Alzheimer's. ===================
