Please go to http://usgwarchives.net/la/sttammany/obits/dateobits/2015/st1504.htm and click to view list of photos. ========== James Dawson Harrison, D.D.S., age 90, died April 7, 2015 at his home in Pearl River from Parkinson's Disease. He was a seaman in the Navy during WWII, attended St. Louis University School of Dentistry, and then served in the U.S. Army Dental Corps. He loved to garden, snow ski, and fish but his passion was teaching dental students. He taught at St. Louis University where he became Associate Dean, at Southern Illinois University where he was an Associate Dean of Education, and spent 28 years at the L.S.U. School of Dentistry, many of them as chair of the Department of Fixed Prosthodontics. After Hurricane Katrina, he returned part time to the school and taught for 7 more years. Throughout his professional career he received many honors including President of the following: American Association of Dental Schools, the American Academy of Dental Electrosurgery, the American Academy of Crown and Bridge Prosthodontics, and the national honorary dental fraternity Omicron Kappa Upsilon. From the dental students he received the Golden Apple Award and the Dr. Allen A. Copping Award for Excellence in Teaching and from St. Louis University he was awarded the Alumni Merit Award. He wrote over 45 journal articles, co-edited 2 books, published 1 book and spoke at numerous dental conferences. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Janice Mantle Harrison, his son William, wife Tina, and grandson Tyler; son Thomas, wife Ruchille and grandsons James and Jacob, and grandchildren Carley and Andrew Marquez; and daughter Susan Harwood, husband Chris and grandchildren Robert McDaniel, Irene Adams, and Steven McDaniel from his first marriage. He was preceded in death by his daughter Nancy Harrison Barron, as well as his brother and sister in law, Earnest and Phyllis Harrison. He is survived by many nieces and nephews. A memorial service in celebration of his life will be held at Northminster Presbyterian Church, 63140 N. Military Road, Pearl River, LA 70452 on Saturday, April 18th at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to the James D.
