Oalmann, Jr., a native of New Orleans and a resident of Covington for the past 10 years, passed away on April 20, 2014. He was 89 years old. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph W. Oalmann, Sr. and Agnes Luquet Oalmann; his brothers Earl, Louis, and Harold; his sister May Schultz; and his step-grandson Terry J. Bethancourt. He will never be forgotten by his loving wife of 66 years and selfless care- giver, Joycelyn Laine Oalmann and by his daughters MaryAnn Sison and husband Gustave, Peggy Bethancourt and husband Jim, and Joann Labruzzo. He was Grampy to his adoring grandchildren: Lori Indest Hahn and her husband Matt; Ryan Indest and his wife Lynn Schiffman Indest; Nathan Sison, Tess Sison, and great-grandchildren Meredith, Emma, and Christian Hahn. He is also survived by his big sister Agnes Schule and his younger brothers, Raymond, Gerald, and Robert. Uncle Joe will be missed by his numerous nieces and nephews, his in-laws, and friends. Joe grew up in the Ninth Ward of New Orleans with his parents and siblings, and raised his family in Gentilly where he was an active member of St. Leo the Great Catholic Church. As a resident of Covington since Hurricane Katrina, he was an active member of Most Holy Trinity Parish in Covington. He was a very proud veteran of World War II - Pacific Theater and of the Korean War and was an active member of the VFW for many years. He retired from the Norfolk-Southern Railroad and loved trains his whole life. An avid hobbyist, Joe was the Oalmann family genealogist. Spending time with his family was his most-loved past-time, and he inspired all of us with his caring nature, energy and work-ethic. As he often said, “If you are going to do it, do it right.” A celebration of his life will be on Thursday, April 23, 2015 at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 4465 US 190 Service Rd. Covington, LA 70433. Friends and family can call at 10:00 AM. A mass of Christian burial will begin at 12:00 Noon. Interment with full military honors at Southeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery, 34888 Grantham College Rd. Slidell, LA 70460, will immediately follow mass. The family would like to extend special thanks to St. Tammany Hospice and the staff of Pontchartrain Health Care Center in Mandeville. In lieu of flowers, Joseph and Joycelyn request donations to Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church building fund, your favorite charity, or just spending some extra time with your loved ones.
