She was born March 18, 1931, in Chicago, Illinois to Dewey and Emma Garrett. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her beloved husband of more than 50 years, Robert “Bob” Baird, who passed before her just nine months ago. Gerry is survived by her sons: James “Jim” Lamz (Deanna), Randy Lamz and Brian Baird; three grandchildren: James “Jimmy” Lamz (Nicole), Miranda Lamz and Jonathan Lamz; eight great grandchildren; several sisters and brothers: Sharon Olmsted, Karen McGlothin, Leonard Garrett (Bea), Albert Garrett (Marleen) and Patricia Thomas (Ralph); several nieces, nephews and friends. Although Gerry may have officially died of “natural causes,” in our hearts and minds she died from a “broken heart.” Once Bob was no longer there to share her life, her health declined and her reason for living seemed to disappear. Gerry left this earth to be with her soulmate and the love of her life. When the thunder rumbles, we will smile to ourselves as we picture Gerry and Bob dancing the two-step in the clouds for eternity! Thank you Jim Lamz, Sharon Olmsted and Desiree Doucet for your relentless care and devotion provided to Gerry since Bob’s passing. Although no one could ever fill Bob’s cowboy boots, she truly enjoyed the meals, attention, phone calls and love shown to her. Private services will be held for family on Friday. Donations to the American Legion Post 185 in Slidell preferred in lieu of flowers. ===================
