Susan Bailey Deano died Wednesday June 3, 2015 surrounded by people who love 
her. 

Her father, Van Norman Bailey, and mother Frances Lucas Bailey predeceased her. 
She is survived by her husband Edward Deano, Jr. and her two sisters Webbie 
Bailey Nee (John) and Debbie Bailey Probst (Paul).

Born in New Orleans on August 15, 1950, Susie moved to Mandeville 25 years ago. 
She worked as a mineral title abstractor throughout Louisiana for 32 years. A 
sought after and generous mentor, Susie enjoyed an excellent professional 
reputation.

Committed, gentle and strong, Susie was active in her adoptive community of 
Mandeville. Her efforts were varied from organizing a counter Ku Klux Klan 
rally to founding a garden club. A deep concern for the welfare of children led 
her to be a Court Appointed Special Advocate representing the interests of 
children before the courts. Susie was a founder of the Green Fund and led 
efforts to purchase land in Mandeville to preserve it in its natural state. 
Even recently, Susie brought the highly acclaimed poetry boxes to Old 
Mandeville. A staunch progressive, Susie represented the Mandeville area as an 
elected member of the Louisiana Democratic State Central Committee. She will be 
remembered as a kind, loving, fun and loyal friend.

Susie’s cooking is legendary. Her devotion to her nieces and nephews is 
complete. Working in her gardens, a wonderful expression of her creativity, 
brought her immense pleasure.

A gathering of friends and family will be held at the Deano residence at 136 
Lafayette St. in Mandeville on Sunday, June 7, 2015, from 5-8 PM.
