He honorably served in the US army during WWII as a carrier pigeon operator and was a local entrepreneur of Slidell that operated his business up until the age of 93. He opened his first business, Heirloom Era, on Front Street when settling to Slidell originally in 1956. He then expanded to Viola's Upholstery in Slidell, Louisiana on Hwy 190 where he mastered his trade of restoring antiques and upholstery repair, along with specialty furniture fabrication for over 59 years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Renaurd Viola; his parents Lawrence and Lena Viola; and siblings Cosmo Viola, Rose Marie Viola, Lena, and Katie Bruney. He is survived by three sons, Joseph Viola Jr. (Brenda), Carl Viola (Kathy), and Roy Viola (Jeanene); 6 grandchildren; and 6 great grandchildren. Visitation services will be held at Honaker Funeral Home 1751 Gause Blvd W. Slidell, LA on Tuesday, June 9, 2015 from 10am-12pm, interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery 5200 Canal Blvd New Orleans, LA. US Army WWII ===================
