He was 74. Ronald is survived by his wife, Gwendolyn Simmons Gitz; children, Rondalyn Gitz Plescia (Ray) and Ronald A. Gitz, Jr. (Jennifer); grandchildren Rebecca Plescia Cambre (Chris), Rachel Plescia Jenkins (Marvin), Raven Leigh Plescia, Audrey Ellen Gitz, Mary Grace Gitz and Harrison Grant Gitz; great grandchildren Ryder Raymond Cambre and Rowan Lee Jenkins; siblings, Peter Louis Gitz, Jr. and Raiford Bernard Gitz. He is preceded in death by his father, Peter Louis Gitz, Sr.; mother, Ellen Raiford Gitz Williamson and brother Terrance Joseph Gitz. Ronald was born on October 16, 1940 in Madisonville, LA. He graduated from Covington High School in 1957. He married Gwendolyn Ann Simmons, his high school sweetheart in 1960. After graduating from Touro Infirmary School of Radiologic Technology, Ronald enjoyed a long professional career at St. Tammany Parish Hospital as the Radiology Department Administrator. Ronald was a proud husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was a devout Catholic. Visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, September, 8th from 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm at E.J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 W. 21st. Ave., Covington, LA 70433. Visitation is also scheduled for Wednesday, September 9th from 9:30 am – 11:00 am at St. Peter's Catholic Church, 125 E. 19th Ave., Covington, LA 70433 followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 am. Interment will follow at Theodore Dendinger Memorial Cemetery in Madisonville. The family would like to thank caregivers Eunice, Toni, Edith, Tracey and Edna (Mary) for their tireless devotion and loving care along with St. Tammany Parish Hospital Hospice employees Cheryl, Dee, Ida and Dr. Joyce for their strength and guidance.
