She was born to Archibald and Ellen McCallum on January 15, 1921 in Thornton, Iowa, the youngest of 8 children. She grew up in Council Bluffs, Iowa and lived several different places before spending the last 35 years of her life in Covington, Louisiana. When she was three months old she went to live with her oldest sister, Georgia and her husband Everett Alberty, who raised her along with their son, Howard. Dorothy graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in Council Bluffs, Iowa. During World War II, she worked as a welder and made radio crystals to aid in the war effort. She attended Cosmetology School and owned two beauty shops, one in Council Bluffs and the other in Covington, Louisiana (Dee’s Beauty Salon). She had two daughters, Rosanne and Carole. They were the lights of her life. She was always involved in their lives and activities. She was a doting grandmother and aunt. Her beautiful smile, amazing strength, unbreakable spirit, careful guidance and abundant love were admired by all who knew her, but especially her family. She was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian church in Council Bluffs and the Covington Presbyterian Church in Covington. She was predeceased by her mother and father, her sisters Georgia (Everett), Blanche, Bernice, and Mae; her brothers, Ernest, Allen and Archie; her nephew Howard Alberty; her daughter, Caroline Bryant; her granddaughter, Elizabeth Reilly and her three husbands, Arthur Robinson, Walter Andersen and Raymond Oakes, Jr. She is survived by her daughter Rosanne Pingitore (Jack); 7 grandchildren, Jonathan Riley (Robin), Rebecca Lala (Travas), Melissa Bryant (Jeffery Wetzel), Richard Rydinsky (Elizabeth), Stephanie McCabe, Pamela Kellett (Tim) and Johnna Miles (Jim); 29 great grandchildren and 8 great-great grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Service at 11:00 AM on Monday, September 14, 2015 at E. J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 West 21st Avenue Covington, LA 70433. Visitation on Monday from 9:00 AM to service time. Interment in Pinecrest Memorial Gardens Covington, LA. The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff at Heritage Manor of Mandeville, where she spent the last 13 years.
