She was preceded in death by her father, Raleigh Harlow Luckett and mother, Lucille Thomas Luckett. Her family includes her husband, Philip L. Palmer, sons; Donald H. Palmer(Esmerelda), Russell B. Palmer, daughters; Dianne P. McLain, Melody P. Gelpi(Patrick), grandchildren; David McLain(Jill), Kissy Palmer, Austin Dartez, Lukela Palmer, Maci Palmer, Laura Mayfield(Zeal), Aimee Gelpi, great grandchildren; Marshall McLain, Nolan McLain, and Ella Rose Denham, brother; Michael Luckett, Sr.(Laura); nephew; Michael Luckett, Jr., niece; Ellen Baker(Justin), great nieces; Evan and Laura Luckett, and special cousins; Lucy Hill and Susan Jahnke. She is a descendant of the Drayton Family- a First Family of South Carolina. Her childhood home was in Birmingham, Al. She attended the University of Alabama, where she joined Alpha Pi sorority and received a B.S. and Master’s Degree in United States History and Political Science. She taught Constitutional Law and American History at Fairfax Hall, Waynesboro, Va, and Huntingdon College in Montgomery, AL. While working toward her Postgraduate Degree at Tulane University in New Orleans, she met Philip L. Palmer. They were married on April 1, 1972. In 1976 they moved to Slidell, La. Cathy was a former President and Honorary Lifetime member of the Women’s Republican Club of Slidell. She worked and volunteered on several St. Tammany Parish campaigns- including those for Bob Livingston, Liz Teague, Joan Hennessy, and Judge Patricia Hedges. She was also a former President and member of the Friends of the Slidell Library. In 2006, she relocated to Scottsboro, AL, with Philip. She continued her interest in the Women’s Republican Club and was a member of a book club. An avid reader, Cathy was knowledgeable in many subjects. She especially enjoyed discussing historical events and political issues. Cathy was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Services at HONAKER FUNERAL HOME, 1751 GAUSE Blvd. WEST (IN FOREST LAWN CEMETERY), Slidell, LA on Friday, September 11, 2015 at 2:00 P.M. Interment in FOREST LAWN CEMETERY. Visitation on Friday after 12:00 O’clock noon until funeral time. ===================
