Mr. Siegert was a much loved and respected resident of Slidell, LA for nearly 50 yrs and recently moved to Mobile, AL. Raised in Pana, IL, Rudy was preceded in death by his daughter, Ann Siegert Underwood and his parents, Dr. & Mrs. Rudolph B. Siegert. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Peggy Vest Siegert, his children Rudy (Sherri) Siegert of Slidell, LA, Amy Siegert of Baton Rouge, LA, Kary Siegert of Mobile, AL and son in law Andy Underwood of Mobile, AL. He also leaves behind grandchildren Jeron Siegert, Renee Bauman, Drew Underwood, Nick Siegert, Bret Underwood and Grace Siegert and five great grandchildren. His brothers Robert Siegert, Philip Siegert and Michael Siegert as well as loads of nieces, nephews and cousins also survive him. Rudy graduated from the University of Illinois in 1956 where he played varsity football for four years and served as captain of his team. He was also a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity at U of I. He served as 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army before attending graduate school at Texas A & M University where he received his Masters Degree in Petroleum Geology in 1961. Rudy worked in the oil and gas industry for more than 54 years. While his early career began with Texaco, he was an independent geologist for 45 years. The New Orleans Geological Society honored him with the Life Membership Award in 1986 in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the society, the profession of geology and to the development of the petroleum industry in general. He was past president (77-78) and past vice-president ( 72-73) of NOGS. He founded the NOGS Memorial Scholarship Fund during his term as president. He was also a member of the Gulf Coast Association of Geological Societies (GCAGS) where he was recognized with the Distinguished Service Award for his outstanding contributions to the oil and gas industry. Additionally, Rudy was a valued and esteemed member of AAPG, LOGA, SGS and SIPES serving on many boards throughout the years. He was a board member of the Pinewood Country Club for many years and served his community well. Rudy had a real passion for the outdoors; from hunting and fishing to working in the yard and watching birds. He also greatly enjoyed sports and was a voracious reader. Rudy lived a full and happy life both personally and professionally. He was an incredible husband, son, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He was loved and respected by all who knew him. His presence in this world will be sorely missed. Visitation will be held on Friday, October 23, 2015 from 5:00pm till 8:00pm at Honaker Funeral Home, 1751 Gause Boulevard West, Slidell, LA 70460. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 24, 2015 at 10:00am in the sanctuary of Aldersgate United Methodist Church,– 360 Robert Boulevard, Slidell, LA 70458.
