Joseph Durel Landry, Jr. died on Wednesday, November 11, 2015 at the age of 75. 

A native of New Orleans he was a resident of the Northshore for nearly 40 years.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Adrienne Lindsay Landry, son Joseph 
Durel Landry, III and wife Rhonda of Fayette, AL, son Kirk Lindsay Landry and 
wife Kristen of Baton Rouge, and grandchildren Katherine and Lindsay. He is also 
survived by his sister Margaret “Peggie” Brown and brother-in-law John “Jack” 
Brown of Lacombe, sister-in-law Merilyn Elliott of Houston, nieces and nephew 
Randi Brown Mary and Dr. John “Jay” Brown, Jr. of Mandeville and Lisa Elliott of 
Houston and their families, and stepmother Gloria Z. Landry. He was predeceased 
by his parents Dr. J. Durel Landry and Marjorie West Landry of New Orleans, and 
brother-in-law Earl Elliott and nephew Brett Elliott of Houston.

Durel was a graduate of St. Martins Episcopal School and McNeese State 
University. He recently and reluctantly retired after a long career in various 
executive capacities, most recently with Tammany Holding Corp., and previously 
with Delta Steamship Co., Crowley Maritime Corp., Coastal Cargo Co. and others.

Durel had many varied hobbies and interests over the years. He was a world 
traveler, a voracious reader, a bass fisherman, and an early CB radio enthusiast 
to name just a few. He was a people person who enjoyed talking to anyone and 
everyone about everything.

Durel fought his illness like a cat with nine lives. Despite recent setbacks, he 
never gave up and never complained. As he told his sons, and they promised to 
make his epitaph, “I’m a survivor, babe”.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service at Christ 
Episcopal Church, 120 S. New Hampshire, Covington, LA 70433 on December 12, 2015 
at 2 :00 PM, followed by a reception to share stories and celebrate Durel’s 
life. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in memory of Durel to be 
made to Christ Episcopal Church or the charity of your choosing.
