Kristina Fridl Mellema passed away on Sunday, November 15, 2015. 

Born on Saturday, July 16, 1927 in what is now Trbovlje, Slovenia, she was a 
longtime resident of Lakeview before moving to Covington in 2009.

The beloved wife of the late Herman Jan Mellema, she is survived by her daughter 
- Kristina "Krisi" H. Leonard and son-in-law - Eugene "Gene" P. Leonard, Jr.; 
one son - Herman Mellema, Jr. and daughter-in-law - Julie A. Mellema; two 
grandchildren - Chad C. Culotta and Lauren A. Mellema.

She was preceded in death by her parents - Josip and Gabrijela Moltara Fridl.

Always in motion, Kristina was a feisty character. Whether counseling neighbors 
or attending mass, this sweet firecracker loved life, shopping and spoiling her 
grandchildren, not necessarily in that order.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Liturgy of the Word at 12:00 
Noon on Thursday, November 19, 2015 at E.J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 W. 21st 
Ave. Covington, LA 70433.

Visiting hours on Thursday will begin at 10:30 AM.

Final committal services will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to the Alzheimer's Association
