He was met in the afterlife by his father, Harold Arthur, and his mother, Marjorie Arthur. His older brothers Roger Arthur and Michael Arthur and his grandson Gabriel Iron Rope also preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife of 41 years Loretta Arthur, his children, and grandchildren. A Mandeville native, he made is home in Lacombe where he and Loretta raised four children: Jeremiah, Christy, Suzanne, and Abigail. He cherished the water and the natural beauty of Louisiana’s wetlands. For many years, he provided for his growing children by spearfishing in Lake Ponchartrain and the Gulf of Mexico. He was a member of the Aqua Aces scuba diving club, where he was affectionately dubbed the “mass murderer” for his aggressive spearfishing style. Alan retired from Lockheed Martin, where he was most proud of his accomplished career assembling the space shuttle’s external tank and the X-33 space craft. At Martin Marietta, Alan applied his practical intelligence and impressive dexterity to building space ships. He was a lover music and food. He flourished when playing his saxophone with friends or cooking up some shrimp mirliton. Alan will be fondly remembered for his strong work ethic and his offbeat sense of humor. His colloquial wisdoms continue to inform his children. Among these is one which speaks to the beauty of imperfection. “Don’t regret making mistakes. God only made one perfect man and they crucified him.” An open house will be held in his honor from 1-7 pm on Wednesday, January 6th at 34489 Torregano Rd. in Slidell, Louisiana. A brief service will be held at 2:00 pm. Alan’s family invites all who knew, loved, and supported him to come and celebrate in this remembrance of his life. ===================
