Batiste of Slidell, LA, passed away on Monday, December 7, 2015, at her residence. She was the beloved wife of Bruce Batiste, Sr. for 28 years. She started her journey on this earth on February 13, 1945. She was the daughter of the late Felicien and Edna Lavergne. She was preceded in death by her two sisters, Edna Biagus and Rosemary Shilo, brother, Roger Lavergne and son, Warren Papillion. She is survived by three sisters, Theresa Simien, Loritha Pollard and Rosella Guillory, all of Lake Charles, LA. She leaves to cherish her memory, two sons, Darryl Papillion and Bryan Papillion, two step- sons, Bruce Batiste, Jr. and Sean Batiste; 12 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Lorena was a kind, Loving and giving woman who believed in serving others. She was a native of Slidell, LA and began working for STARC as a Direct Support Professional in February 2000, serving individuals with disabilities. She unselfishly volunteered at the New Orleans Children’s Hospital, helping with the Telethon and Boo at the Zoo. She also served as a Special Olympics and bowling coach in addition to Jazz on the Bayou benefitting Easter Seals Louisiana and STARC. Her civic duties included working Election Day Polls. Lorena joined Beta Sigma Phi International Sorority in January 2006, Chapter Preceptor Sigma where she held the degree of Exemplar. A very active member in her chapter, she held offices in the Northshore area counsel as Corresponding Secretary and Vice President along with being her chapter representative, chapter Photographer and Publicity. She was a member of Journey Fellowship Church, Pontchartrain Campus Slidell. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral services at HONAKER FUNERAL HOME,1751 GAUSE Blvd. WEST (IN FOREST LAWN CEMETERY), Slidell, LA, on Saturday, December 12, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. Interment will follow in FOREST LAWN CEMETERY, Slidell, LA. Visitation at Honaker Funeral Home on Saturday, December 12, 2015 from 9:00 A.M. until 11:00A.M. The repass will be immediately following services at residence: 60247 Donya Street, Slidell, LA ===================
