Beloved husband of the late Yvette Reinecke Zimmer for 61 years. Devoted father of Mark L. Zimmer (Shelly), Chris Ann Dunn (Lenny), Anita M. Zimmer, and Rhonda C. Zimmer (Ken). Adoring Grandfather of Stacey Couture and Hope Savoie (Tommy); Bruce, John and Travis Nunez; Bryce and Derek Maxie (Lindsay). Great Grandfather of Taylor, Holden, Masson, Ethan, and Ryder. Son of the late Winifred Stonicher Zimmer and the late John Joseph Zimmer, Sr. A native of New Orleans and resident in Metairie for most of his life, John was a long time parishioner of St. Catherine of Siena Parish, and served as Treasurer of the St. Vincent de Paul Society and Usher Society for many years, coordinator of the Monday Volunteer Group, and member of the Holy Name Society and Respect for Life Committee. John and his wife danced for over 50 years with the Zig & Zag Square Dance Club. John worked as an accountant for over 20 years at Radio Parts, Inc. John enjoyed working in his vegetable garden and woodworking. There were not many sports games that John missed on television; high school, college or professional. He was an avid Saints, Tigers, Green Wave, Pelicans and Cubs fan. He also enjoyed being the trip planner and tour guide for his travel group of friends. He was a kind and loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend, and he will be missed by those who knew and loved him. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 105 Bonnabel Blvd., Metairie, LA on Thursday, February 4, 2016, at 12:00 noon. Visitation starting at the church at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Lake Lawn Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Brothers of the Sacred Heart Foundation, 4600 Elysian Fields Ave., New Orleans, LA 70122. ===================
