Please go to http://usgwarchives.net/la/sttammany/obits/dateobits/2016/st1602.htm and click to view list of photos. ========== Colonel Ernest Michael “Mike” Fry of Williamsburg, VA passed away peacefully in Covington, LA on Wednesday, February 10, 2016 at the age of 95. He was the beloved husband of the late Stephanie Agnes Traka Fry for 67 wonderful years. He attributed his long life and health to “good clean living”. Col. Fry was preceded in death by his parents, Lucille Braud Fry and Thomas Curlen Fry; his siblings, Thomas Fry, John Fry, Virginia Fry Meyers and Marguerite Fry; His niece Cynthia Meyers Bamber; nephew-in-law, Gary Verzwyvelt and great-niece, Camille Fry. Mike was a loving husband, meeting his precious “Stevie” in Rome, Italy during WWII, they married in New York City on November 19, 1947. Their marriage was a beautiful example of commitment to all who knew them. They were a true partnership. His more than 30 years of distinguished service in the United States Army Infantry included combat tours in WWII, Korea and Vietnam. Included among his decorations and awards were the Legion of Merit with Oak Leaf Cluster, The Army Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, and the Knight of Officer Crown of Italy. Colonel Fry was awarded a Regular Army Commission after completion of a most strenuous competitive tour. He subsequently completed his undergraduate degree and then a Masters degree with the College of William and Mary. He also served with distinction on the Army Staff and at the Continental Army Command. Upon retirement from the United States Army, he became a published poet, and a novice photographer. Mike enjoyed golfing with his dear friends, researching his family’s genealogy, and was endlessly devoted to his dear wife, Stevie. Mike will be deeply missed by his nieces and nephews and all who knew him. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Memorial Mass at St. Joseph Abbey, 75376 River Rd., St. Benedict, LA 70457 on Tuesday, February 16, 2016 at 2:00 PM. Interment will be in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in memory of Col. Fry to be made to Wounded Warrior Project.
