He was 84 years old and was favored with nine grandchildren: Steven Curtis McGinity Jr, Meagan Kathleen McGinity, Courtney Odell McGinity, Allison Northrop McGinity, Madeline Anne McGinity, Ryan Donahue McGinity, Matthew Joseph McGinity, Owen Addison McGinity and Richard Jacob McGinity. Richard “Dick” McGinity graduated from Tulane University Law School in 1959 after earning a Tulane Business Administration (BBA) degree in 1957. While at Tulane, he served as the Chief Justice of the Tulane Moot Court Board. He regularly met and enjoyed the comradery of his graduating class of 1959 until the last few months of his life when health issues prevented him. He was admitted to the Bar in 1959 and joined the New Orleans firm, Baldwin & Haspel. In 1963 he established his private practice dedicated to General Business and Litigation. In addition to his private practice, Dick McGinity was, for 21 years, the General Counsel for the Board of Commissioners of the Orleans Levee District which consisted of 350 employees and substantial real estate holdings including the Lakefront Airport and several Marinas. Prior to law school, Dick served in the United States Navy Air Corp during the Korean War and after was attached to the 453rd squadron assigned to the Naval Air Station in North Island, California and later to a Pensacola Naval Air Station. He received an Honorable discharge in 1955. Dick McGinity was raised in New Orleans and, in 1955, married Jean Folse and proceeded to raise their five children in Uptown New Orleans. He had attended LSU as an undergraduate and was avid fan of the LSU Fighting Tigers, attending their football games for decades. Besides his children and grandchildren, Mr. McGinity is survived by his wife, Carole Parker McGinity whom he married in 1982; his sister, Doris McGinity Boudreaux; and, his brother, Patrick Canton McGinity. He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard Joseph McGinity Jr and Alice “Honey” Canton McGinity and his sister, Margaret “Peggy” McGinity LeBlanc. Richard J. McGinity will be missed by many for his quick wit, his respected legal mind and insightful advice, and, as he was known, for his epic grit. His children and his beloved Boston Bull Terrier, Deuce, will miss him greatly. His family and friends will be celebrating his life at a private memorial in New Orleans on March 6, 2016 – for information call his daughter, Pamela McGinity, at 337-234-8674 or his son, Douglas McGinity, at 504-975-4444.
