Beloved husband of Geraldine Wilson Sistrunk. Loving father of Michael R. Sistrunk, Sr. (Juliana), Mark Terry Sistrunk (Lane) and Steven Shawn Sistrunk (Judy). Beloved son of the late Clara Pickens Sistrunk and Thomas Leonard Sistrunk, Sr. Brother of Thomas L. Sistrunk, Jr. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by grandchildren, Devon Sistrunk and Jessica Sistrunk. Dr. Sistrunk graduated from LSU where he was the head cheerleader and a Colonel in the ROTC. Later he attended LSU Medical School in New Orleans where he interned at Big Charity. After serving as a Captain in the USAF, he entered private practice with Dr. Eugene Countiss and Dr. Fred Brumfield. During his career he took great joy in delivering 10,000 babies. Dr. Sistrunk served as Chairman of the Board of Southern Baptist Hospital, President of the New Orleans OB/GYN Society and Board Member at St. Martin’s School. As a member of First Baptist Church of New Orleans he served as a Deacon and a pallbearer for Pastor J.D. Grey. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral services at First Baptist Church of Covington, 16333 Hwy 1085, Covington, LA 70433 on Thursday, April 21, 2016 at 1:00 PM with visitation at the church on Thursday beginning at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow in Pinecrest Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in memory of Dr. Sistrunk to be made to Samaritan’s Purse, www.samaritanspurse.org or Wounded War Heroes, 12360 Mill House Dr., Geismar, LA 70734, www.woundedwarheroes.org . Dr. Sistrunk was extremely grateful to Gifted Nurses and the many nurses providing care to him and his wife. USAF ===================
