Born, Friday, June 13, 1947 in Baton Rouge, LA to Dr. Alvin Lee Bertrand and Mary Nic Ellis Bertrand. Survived by her Husband Dr. Marvin E. Thames, Jr., Daughter Stephanie L. Thames, Brother Dr. William L. Bertrand, Brother-in-law Charles W. Thames, Sister-in-laws Dr. Jane Bertrand and Laura Thames, Nieces Leiv McReynolds, Vaughn Burnside, Katherine Bertrand and Elisabeth Yoho, and Nephews Jacob Bertrand and Warren Thames. She was predeceased by her Parents, Daughter Jennifer M. Thames and Brother-in-law Philip Thames. She attained a BA from LSU and marched in the LSU Tiger Band from Tiger Land, received a MA for Loyola of New Orleans and a Ph.D from University Southern Mississippi. She taught in the public schools in New Orleans, University of New Orleans and retired from LSU Health Science Center: School of Public Health. She was a renowned Research and Grant writer having written many grants for the St. Tammany Fire Districts. She was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa National Honor Society and ZTA Sorority at LSU, a delegate and speaker at the U.S. Army War College. Also a member of D.A.R. and a Dame for Magna Charter. She taught the Child Choir of First Baptist Church of New Orleans and Mandeville. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Service at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at First Baptist Church of Covington, 16333 Hwy 1085 Covington, LA 70433. Visitation on Wednesday, April 20, 2016 from 9:30 AM to service time. Interment in Pinecrest Memorial Gardens Covington, LA.
