Margaret Mendow Barker passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on 
Saturday, May 14, 2016 in Covington, LA. 
She was born on February 9, 1936 in Covington, LA to the late Allen “Buck” 
Mendow and Grace Thomas Mendow.

Margaret is survived by her beloved husband of 60 years, Elwood Kenneth Barker. 
She was the loving mother of Jeffrey K. Barker (Tonia), Keary Craig Barker, and 
Jody T. Barker (Sheila). She was the proud grandmother of Amelia and Clayton 
Barker, Summer Hughes (Dustin), Annie Barker, and Riley Barker. Margaret was 
the great-grandmother of Ava and Veronica. She was the sister of Sylvia M. 
Guillory (Duane). She is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Margaret, best known to her loved ones as Gammy, was most happy when surrounded 
by her children and grandkids. She was their biggest cheerleader and loved 
supporting them in all of their endeavors. She worked in various places as a 
receptionist/secretary. Once she retired, she spent most of her time 
volunteering for Fitzgerald U.M.C. She was one of the original members of the 
Fitzgerald Lunch Ministry and enjoyed preparing the food for all of the youth 
gatherings. 

Her family would like to thank everyone for all of the love, support, and 
prayers during this difficult time.

Relatives and friends are invited to the FUNERAL SERVICE at Fitzgerald United 
Methodist Church, 80007 Fitzgerald Church Rd., Covington, LA 70435 on Saturday, 
June 4, 2016 at 11:00 AM. A WAKE will be held AT CHURCH on Friday, June 3, 2016 
from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM. VISITATION on Saturday will be from 9:00 AM until 
service time. 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations are made to FUMC Food 
Ministry, 80007 Fitzgerald Church Rd., Covington, LA
