Rod L. Downie, a resident of St. Tammany Parish for 21 years, passed away on 
Wednesday, May 25, 2016 at his home in Abita Springs. 

Rod was an employee of Gulf Oil and Chevron for 25 years. In his retirement, he 
volunteered at the Northlake Nature Center and was a Master Gardener. 
One of Rod’s true loves was the outdoors. 
He had a passion for trees, nature, and the environment. He enjoyed gardening, 
hiking, fishing, boating, and the Covington Farmer’s Market. 

Rod is survived by his wife of 49 years, Ginger Downie, his two sons, Scott 
Downie and Michael Downie, and his three grandchildren, Alyssa Downie, Ryan 
Downie, and Elizabeth Downie. 

Rod was a loving and dedicated husband, father, and grandfather. He will be 
greatly missed. 

A memorial celebration will be held at a later date.
